Praise The Lord“Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition” I believe was a well known phrase from WWII that describes our current position.

I am proud to proclaim that I am a Christian who believes that God created the universe and Jesus died for our sins. So we praise God for where we have been and where we are now.

On June 30, 2010, Scott will have been home from the hospital for two years. That alone is enough to thank God for his blessings. The consensus of the nursing staff at the hospital was that we would be back within 2 weeks. I guess they were shocked since we haven’t been back in 2 years.

Eight weeks ago we began the process of trying to wean Scott from the ventilator (respirator, breathing machine).

At the time we started weaning, Scott was on a vent setting of AC of 14 breaths per minute.

The AC setting basically means that the machine will give him 14 breaths each minute regardless of how many breaths he takes on his own.

Praise the Lord. Two things have happened recently that I am very happy about.

First, we have now been out of the hospital over 16 months and secondly, the doctor finally agreed to beginning Scott’s weaning process off the ventilator here at home.

Brain Tissue In Traumatic Injuries Regenerated

brain tissue Brain InjuriesAn injectable biomaterial gel may help brain tissue grow at the site of a traumatic brain injury, according to findings by a Clemson University bioengineer.

Research by assistant professor of bioengineering Ning Zhang shows that the biomaterial gel made up of both synthetic and natural sources has the potential to spur the growth of a patient’s own neural stem cells in the body, structurally repairing the brain injury site.

In previous lab studies, Zhang has demonstrated the reconstruction of a complete vascular network at the injury site as an initial step toward brain tissue regeneration.

Sonya Wright, left, talks about her ordeal and recovery as her mother, Nona Woods, looks on at her home in Tuscaloosa. Wright has paralysis on her right side and struggles to communicate.

No one expected Sonya Wright to live after her ex-boyfriend attacked her with a hammer two years ago.

The police who found her lying in the bathtub with a shattered skull thought she was dead.

Surgeons sewed a wound on the side of her head without even cleaning it, thinking she wouldn’t live.

Only her mother, Nona Woods, believed her daughter would recover.

“They told me there was no way she was going to make it, and if so, she would be a vegetable,” Woods said. “Something came over me.

I said, ‘It’s OK, Nona’ and from that point on, I did not acknowledge anything else except that she was going to be OK.”

Quilt of Holes

angel quilt 150x150 Quilt of Holes

As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls.

Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry that is our life.

But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was.

They were filled with giant holes.

Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in every day life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all.
