Scott Pre 1993

This is the story of what has happened to my oldest son, what has happened to him since 1993 and God’s mercies, healing, and direction in his life.

In 1993 Scott was hit head on by a drunk driver and suffered injuries that no human should survive.

However, thanks to God’s intervention and our prayers, He spared Scott’s life.

Gregory Scott Daniel - Thank You LordBecause Scott’s story is so long I am going to attempt to give the highlights of the last 19 years.  I’m sure that many of you do not believe God intervenes in our lives to direct a specific outcome, but I do.  If you don’t, that is okay because everyone has free will to believe as they choose. Vegetables-Gregory Scott DanielDo we really need nutritional supplements — and would they even do us any good?

If we believe the naysayers, nutritional supplements like vitamins and minerals are worthless; no clinical vitamin/mineral trial has ever shown any benefit.

Besides, we′re told, we can get all our vitamins and minerals from a balanced diet.

Gregory Scott Daniel UpdateI have not done an update on Scott’s condition in a while now but when everything is the same day after day there doesn’t seem to be a reason.

About 3 weeks ago we had to take Scott to the Emergency Room because he began to run a very high temperature.  When we arrived they did blood work and his white cell count was 55,000.  Those of you in the medical field will understand this is very serious.  For those of us not in the medical field it means he had a raging infection of the type that would kill many people.

Tuscaloosa TornadoHello friends,

We are thankful that Scott and I are safe and well.

I have received calls and email asking how we are doing since the tornado hit Tuscaloosa on Wednesday and I am proud to tell you God watched over us and my home received no damage.

The tornado came through about 1/2 to 3/4 miles from us as the crow flies.

Just a quick update on how Scott is doing, which is very well considering the weak condition of his body.

We are still in the weaning process to get him free of the ventilator.  It is going to be a much longer process than I ever imagined.  It is really a process of trial and error.  We have to watch how his body is reacting to determine what to do next.

Praise The Lord“Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition” I believe was a well known phrase from WWII that describes our current position.

I am proud to proclaim that I am a Christian who believes that God created the universe and Jesus died for our sins. So we praise God for where we have been and where we are now.

On June 30, 2010, Scott will have been home from the hospital for two years. That alone is enough to thank God for his blessings. The consensus of the nursing staff at the hospital was that we would be back within 2 weeks. I guess they were shocked since we haven’t been back in 2 years.

Eight weeks ago we began the process of trying to wean Scott from the ventilator (respirator, breathing machine).

At the time we started weaning, Scott was on a vent setting of AC of 14 breaths per minute.

The AC setting basically means that the machine will give him 14 breaths each minute regardless of how many breaths he takes on his own.

Praise the Lord. Two things have happened recently that I am very happy about.

First, we have now been out of the hospital over 16 months and secondly, the doctor finally agreed to beginning Scott’s weaning process off the ventilator here at home.
